Harry Slatkin, along with his wife Laura, served as the creative forces behind Slatkin & Co., the premier home fragrance brand that set a high precedent in the industry. Harry Slatkin has also created home fragrance collections for numerous luxury brands including Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Chopard, and Christian Dior. Additionally, Harry has been awarded the title of a “nose” by the American Society of Perfumers, the highest honor in the fragrance industry. Harry’s expertise and keen sense of smell is trusted by celebrities such as Martha Stewart, Elton John, Vera Wang, and Oprah Winfrey, as well as devoted customers.
Harry Slatkin is not only a highly talented creative and an acclaimed nose in the industry, but he also carried his knowledge rooted in finance and business into the fragrance world from his experience in investment banking on Wall Street, where he was a director at Bear Stearns. In 1992, Harry’s passion for fragrance intersected with his entrepreneurial skills creating Slatkin & Co which rapidly grew in just two years to be the number one luxury home fragrance brand around the world. The brand launched at Saks Fifth Avenue, where it was an instant success and quickly gained traction by being sold at luxury retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and international accounts like Harrods in London, Villa Moda in Dubai, and Joyce in Hong Kong. Slatkin & Co products became highly coveted internationally making Harry Slatkin a leading name in the home fragrance industry worldwide. This acclaim from the brands retail expansion ultimately led to a flood of private label brands contacting Slatkin & Co for their own exclusive lines of fragrance. In 2005, the American businessman Les Wexner, founder and chairman of Limited Brands, sought after Slatkin’s unique talent and bought Slatkin & Co - naming Harry the President of Home for Limited Brands (Bath & Body Works, Victoria Secret, Henri Bendel). At Bath & Body Works, the country’s largest bath and body retailer with over 1650 stores, Harry Slatkin oversaw and directed all home fragrance product development. Harry’s expertise and deep knowledge of the industry allowed him to grow Bath & Body Works home from 100 million to over 1 billion in value, establishing it as the largest home fragrance company in the world.
Harry partnered with QVC in 2007, where his first hour show completely sold out in 42 minutes, and he is now established as their largest home fragrance brand and continues to appear monthly. Harry is a contributing editor at Elle Decor and he has made numerous guest appearances on such shows as CNN, The Martha Stewart Show, Extra TV, E! News, CNBC, ABC and Comedy Central.
Harry’s sensory and design talents have won numerous awards. In addition to his honor by The American Society of Perfumers’ Living Legends Award, Harry Slatkin has also been recognized by The Fragrance Foundation on several occasions with its highest honor for Home Fragrance, the Fifi Award for Interior Scent.
While still consulting for Bath & Body Works, Harry decided to pursue an interest in fashion and continued to utilize his creative talents alongside his best friend, renowned designer and businessman, Tommy Hilfiger. Together, they purchased the international fashion brand Belstaff. As Chairman and CEO, Harry revitalized and repositioned the company to be a high-end luxury brand and expanded it internationally with freestanding flagship stores worldwide.
After selling Belstaff and with 28 years of experience in the home fragrance industry as his foundation, Harry passionately returned to his roots with the creation of HomeWorx. The brand is currently being sold at QVC, QVC UK, Ulta, and Amazon. In addition, Harry created ScentWorx, an exclusive home fragrance and personal care line for Kohls. Harry continues to be at the forefront of creating and establishing new trends and award winning scents in the fragrance industry today, while maintaining the high quality of which he is acclaimed.
Harry resides in Manhattan and Palm Beach, with his wife, Laura Slatkin, and their two children. Harry together with his wife Laura, founded Next for Autism, an organization dedicated to creating innovative replicable programs that address the needs of individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In the 10 years since it was founded, NYCA has established many important initiatives including the NYCA Charter School, the Hunter College Autism Training Institute and the Center for Autism and the Developing Brain, a partnership with New York-Presbyterian Hospital and its affiliated medical schools of Columbia and Weill Cornell. In addition to their involvement in NYCA, Harry and his wife Laura are founding board members of Autism Speaks and serve on numerous non profit organizations such as Henry Street Settlement House, Columbia University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories.
